Nigeria's Dream Team VI beat Sweden 1-0 in Rio 2016 Olympics

Umar Sadiq's 40th minute strike was enough for Nigeria to grab all three points in their second game of Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Nigeria U-23 beat Sweden 1-0 in their second Group B game of the football event of Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

After dominating the game and missing lots of chances in the first half, Sadiq Umar's 40th minute strike was enough to get all the three points against Sweden.

Coach Samson Siasia stuck with the starting XI he used in the first game and his players dominated from the start.

Four goal hero from the first game, Oghenekaro Etebo was guilty of missing some chances as he had several shots off target.

Six minutes from the break, Nigeria got the breakthrough, after Umar connected his head to a perfect cross from Stanley Amuzie.

The Dream Team VI continued their dominance in the second half and could have doubled their lead through John Mikel Obi whose well-driven shot from the top of the area was saved by Sweden goalkeeper.

Sweden got into game following three substitutions by Coach Hakan Ericson but the Nigerian defence led by William Troost-Ekong was solid. 

Nigeria are now through to the quarter-finals and will face Colombia in Sao Paulo on Wednesday, August 10.

The Dream Team is expected to depart in the early hours of Monday, August 8 (Brazilian time) for Sao Paulo.
