Twitter: We have a good story but the owner doesn't want us to share

A Twitter user is barring Nigerian bloggers to use his tweets about a fight between a man and his wife that happened in his office.

Yesterday, Tuesday, October 11, 2016, Twitter user @FoluShaw shared a good true story on his timeline.

The threaded tweets narrated a funny but serious fight between a Nigerian millionaire and his wife. So, why can't we embed the tweets for you to read this lovely morning?
Well, @FoluShaw doesn't want bloggers (especially "Aunty Linda Ikeji") to put up his tweets. This is sort of disappointing because the story in his tweet thread is actually funny and many Nigerians can relate to it.

We could be bad guys and just go ahead and put up his tweets, but hey let's respect the wishes of the author. While we respect his wishes, Twitter's Terms of Service and the law doesn't favour the author.

Lately, a lot of people have been ranting about blogs putting up their tweets on their sites without their permission. Sorry guys, it really doesn't work like that. Twitter is basically the village square of the 21st century.

It's a public say and whatever you say there is for public consumption. If you don't want people to pick up tweets then don't tweet it or better still use a private forum. You can DM this story to a group of your closest friends on Twitter. Better still, you can do it on WhatsApp.
Sorry bloggers, no show today Sorry bloggers, no show today

Also, according to Twitter's terms, tweets can be used by a media house as long as they use a Twitter API. That means if the tweets are embedded, a media site cannot be told to take the tweet down. Screenshots of tweets can also be used under Fair Use or Fair Dealing.

This situation reminds me of Nigerian celebrities who cry about the press writing about their private lives when they put their private lives up on social media.

In situations like these, it is better to understand the law and terms of a service before restricting access.
