Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez model new Barcelona away kit ahead of 2016/17 season

The new Nike jersey blends together the famous red and blue of the Catalan giants together to create a bold new purple number detailed with bright pink lining

Lionel Messi , Neymar and Luis Suarez have modelled the new Barcelona away kit for the 2016/17 season.

The traditional red and blue colours of the Catalan giants have been blended together by Nike to create a bold purple strip.

Barcelona's stars will don the jersey for domestic away games in La Liga and it could also be used in the Champions League, should there be a need to change kits.

The dark purple shirt is detailed by luminous pink lining and socks, adding a bright splash of colour to the jersey.

Barca captain Andres Iniesta said: "The fusion of the traditional red and blue makes this shirt fresh and striking, but at the same time connected with our history.

"In addition, thanks to the new technology we feel much more agile and fast."

Kit manufacturers Nike add: "The advanced performance technology in the kit is visible on the chest, where engineered knit zones create a geometric pattern that 

enhances fit with smaller mesh shapes at the bottom of the graphic.

"The sleeves and the upper back have been infused with black to produce a darker purple.

"As with the home kit, odes to club pride appear on the interior and exterior of the shirt.

"On the the back neck rib of the collar 'Barça' is knit alongside a small woven Catalan flag, the Senyera. 'Un Crit' and 'Valen', which together mean 'Our Cry is Bold' in Catalan, adorn the inside right and left cuffs, respectively.

"The phrase draws from the club’s official fan anthem 'Cant del Barca', customarily sung prior to kick-off.

"The shirt’s font, in vivid pink, takes inspiration from the curves of the city’s iconic architecture."
