The Dream Team VI of Nigeria progressed to the semi-final of the football event at Rio 2016 Olympic Games with a 2-0 win over Denmark on Saturday, August 13.
Captain John Obi Mikel and Aminu Umar score the goals either side of half-time to get Nigeria to the semi-finals.
Dream Team VI players were dominant from the very beginning as forward Imoh Ezekiel troubled the Danish defence.
In the opening minute, Ezekiel’s shot was blocked and the ball fell to Sadiq Umar, whose effort was comfortably saved by Denmark's goalkeeper Jeppe Hojbjerg.
Casper Nielsen hit Nigeria’s post with an effort after controlling the ball with his chest as Denmark grew into the game.
Nigeria
however got the lead in the closing minutes of first half through Mikel
Obi who was in the right position to tap in a cross from Ezekiel.
Ezekiel continued to be a menace to the Danish defence as he mesmerised them with his runs and dribbling skills.
Mikel Obi turn provider as he laid in a cross which Umar rose to head past Hojbjerg.
Oluwafemi Ajayi got the opportunity to add another goal for Nigeria but missed.
Dream Team VI will now face Germany –who beat Portugal 4-0in Sao Paulo on Wednesday, August 17.
