Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri has qualified for the quarter finals of the men's single table tennis event at the Rio 2016 Olympics after defeating German Boll Timo on Monday night, August 8.

Quadri becomes the first African ever to make it to the quarter finals of the men’s single table tennis at the Olympics.

In what was described as a thrilling game, he defeated Timo with a 10-12, 10-12, 5-11, 11-3, 11-5, 9-11 (4-2) to seal a historic berth in the quarter finals.

At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in China, Quadri only made it to the fourth round.
