Oscar Pistorius - Getting Away with Murder?

After a long and frustrating trial Oscar Pistorius was sentenced to 6 years in prison with an opportunity to apply for parole after 3 years for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.  The trial was a media frenzy showing Oscar as a victim and evidence that was brought forward by a highly distinguished police ballistics expert Chris Mangena who seemed to be the only one that knew exactly what he was doing was ignored by useless witnesses brought in by the defence team to counteract what the prosecution had already proved.
Honestly as an opinion I think we all know that the crime scene was not dealt with correctly and Oscar and his team were helped along in order to get where he is today, lucky to be getting a short sentence and with the media and legal coverage that was so carefully manipulated in order for the public to feel sorry for Oscar, Barry Steenkamp changed our opinions as he cried and shook on the stand wanting justice for his slain daughter, which put us in the correct perspective once again as we no longer felt sorry for Oscar but for Reeva a victim of murder.
And then came the defence stooping to the lowest level by prancing Oscar around in the court without his prosthetics, for what purpose only to gain public pity after Barry Steenkamp’s genuine cry for help as well as his interview that was carefully rehearsed so much so that it looked as though it was planned and sympathy for the Pistorius family went out the window.
As South African’s we know what it is like to wake up in the middle of the night after hearing a noise and many have weapons but we also have loved ones in our homes and our instinct as human beings is to check on the loved ones first before we act.
In a small space it seems almost stupid to have had Oscar mention that he had no idea where his girlfriend was, especially after he mentioned that she was awake asking him why he couldn’t sleep and with a fan blowing in a room there is no way that he could have heard noises in the bathroom as the sound is muffled, I know because I sleep with a fan on to keep the noises out.
It looks as though justice was not served and a rich celebrity has once again escaped with a light sentence getting away with murder, but as it was with O.J Simpson every dog has his day and justice will prevail, might not be in a court room but the universe has a way of working these things out anyway and for those who know the truth, that shall set you free and for those who keep the truth, well what a huge burden that is as it will eat you up inside.
