One studio have refused to do this type of piercing because of the risk it poses
Piercing and body art has become increasingly commonplace, and with the ongoing trend, fans are getting more and more creative.
There is, of course, the standard lobe piercing. Which you may or may not have pestered and campaigned your parents to get when younger.
Then there's the upper lobe, the auricle, a conch piercing and a helix piercing.
And that's only the ears. There are whole host of other options should you want to get pretty much anywhere else pierced.
But there is one type of piercing which should be avoided - and the warning is coming from a professional piercer.
TJ Cantwell, a piercer who works in studio 28 in New York has issued an important warning to anyone tempted to plump for the 'Snake eyes' tongue piercing.
The piercer told Bustle it's the one piercing the studio refuse to do as it’s "incredibly unsafe."
While it may look like two separate piercings, the style is in fact a curved barbell inserted horizontally through the tip of the tongue.
The hazard it poses is because the piercing binds the two muscles that make up the tongue, which means they can't move independently.
Additionally, the piercing may cause serious dental issues because the barbell rests on the back of the teeth.
TJ added, "It is almost guaranteed the client will see gum erosion, cracking/chipping of the teeth, and migration/rejection of the piercing leaving a nasty looking scar."
So although it might seem aesthetically pleasing, it does do more harm than good.
